Community Design/Build Collaboration with SBDN + Dalhousie University’s CEU

This community design/build project followed the launch of Standing Buffalo Dakota Nation’s Community Plan.  Members sought to realize this planning process by implementing a Community Garden and Greenhouse/Storage project. Working directly with local builders and unskilled community members, the design and construction for the GreenShed utilized local knowledge, materials and abilities – building capacity for future projects within the community.  A straw-bale tilt-up wall panel system was developed and tested on-site.  This project was seen as a test for how the future community hall could be design and built utilizing as much local efforts as possible.
